Application Opening Date For Nsfas

Nsfas will be opening its online application portal for the 2026-2027 academic year on the 20th of September 2025.
Applications for Nsfas 2026 will be closing on the 15th of December 2025

Who can apply?

All South African Citizens and permanent residents.
For a bursary: combined household income must not exceed R350 000 per annum before deductions.
For a loan: combined household income over R350 000 and below R600 000 per annum before deductions.
Persons with disabilities: combined household income must not exceed R600 000 per annum before deductions.

Requirements For Applying For Nsfas

Provide these essential documents when applying for Nsfas:

NSFAS Declaration Form

Required for non-SASSA applicants.
Must be completed by a school principal or social worker.

Orphan and Vulnerable Child Declaration Form

For applicants under 18 years old.
Must be completed by a social worker (non-SASSA applicants only).

NSFAS Consent Form

Must be signed by the applicant and/or their parent(s), guardian, or spouse.
SASSA recipients do not need to submit this form.

Proof of Legal Guardianship

If you have a court-appointed legal guardian, you must submit official documents issued by the court.

Supporting Documents For Applying To Nsfas

Please attach certified copies of the following documents. All certified copies must be no older than three months. Certification can be done at the South African Police Service or the South African Post Office. This applies to individuals under 18 or those 18 and older who are still dependent on a parent or legal guardian’s household income. Certified copy of the divorce decree if parents are divorced.
An affidavit explaining reasons if a parent does not live at home.
An affidavit explaining reasons if supported by someone who is not a parent or legal guardian.
Certified copy of a SASSA letter if any household member receives a social grant that contributes to your income.
Proof of registration or acceptance at a TVET college or university for any dependent student.
