Dates For NSFAS Applications 2026-2027

The key dates for the 2025 National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications are:

  • Application window: Open from September 20, 2024 and closed on December 15, 2024 at midnight
  • Trimester 2: May 12, 2025 to May 23, 2025
  • Semester 2: July 14, 2025 to July 31, 2025
  • Trimester 3: September 8, 2025 to September 19, 2025

  • Applications for TVET colleges must be done online, and there are no walk-in applications in January 2025.

Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?

  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

Who should not apply?

  • Students who have completed a previous qualification.
  • Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

Documents Required For NSFAS Applications

The documents required for a National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) application include:

  • ID: A certified copy of your ID or smart card that’s not older than three months
  • Academic transcript: A certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results
  • Proof of income: A certified or official copy of a recent payslip or letter of employment for each parent, guardian, or yourself
  • Consent form: A signed and completed consent form
  • Disability Annexure A: A completed and signed form if you have a disability
  • Declaration form: A completed NSFAS Declaration Form if you are an orphan or if you are 34 or younger and your parent-child relationship is unverified
  • Orphan and Vulnerable Child Declaration Form: A completed form if you are under 18 years old
  • Other documents: A retrenchment letter, death certificate, divorce decree, or proof of legal guardianship

  • Go to the NSFAS website
  • Register and create a MyNSFAS profile
  • Log in to your account
  • Click the “Apply” tab
  • Update your personal information
  • Upload required documents
  • Click “Submit”
  • Wait for your results

  • Click on “update details”
  • Enter the OTP that is sent to your new number
